This spectacular hotel, deservedly called a palace, sets the standard for luxury all-inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean. The Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort showcases flawless elegance and incredible Mexican hospitality, and features all the amenities any guest could possibly desire. Surrounded by 123 acres of luxuriant greenery, the hotel is located on Cancun's quieter south shore, far enough away from the centre to escape the crowds, but near enough to enjoy the action if desired.
The Moon Palace is divided into three separate sections, Sunrise, Nizuc and Moon Grand, each with its own distinctive character. Sunrise, with its expansive marbled lobby, vast pool, 13 restaurants and huge assortment of fun activities, is the largest and most lively, while the glamorous lobby of chic and stylish Nizuc imparts a more relaxed ambience, and Moon Grand is the smallest, though scheduled for additions in the near future. There are golf carts and a hotel shuttle to help guests get around the resort.
The highlight of the Moon Palace is the stunning 27-hole golf-course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Each of its three 9-hole sections offers a distinctive environment that challengers players in different ways, with wetlands, dense native vegetation, and strategically placed bunkers. The Golf Centre is home to a practice range, putting and clipping greens and the Jack Nicklaus Academy, and also houses the resort spa, and the newest guest accommodation.
Even apart from the golf course, the facilities for recreation and entertainment here are truly phenomenal. The resort has no fewer than 8 sparkling pools, dotted with bridges and little islands -- in fact, it almost seems as if there is more pool than land. A stand-out recreational feature of the resort is the wildly popular FlowRider Double, a surf simulator which creates two lanes of endless waves of shallow water, offering hours of surfing excitement for everyone from children to the most advanced surfers. The immense offshore reef provides fantastic opportunities for snorkelling and scuba diving, and there are courts for tennis, basketball and volleyball.
The entertainment here is also incredible, largely centred on the ultra-chic NOIR Nightclub in the Sunrise section, a creation of the renowned French designer Frossard, with a vast dance floor and cutting-edge music. There is also an outdoor stage for a wide range of events, including fire shows, and concerts with top popular musicians. A major attraction is the series of fabulous themed evenings, including Caribbean Island Paradise, with thatched huts, tikki torches and mysterious jungle backdrops; a Mayan evening, recreating the mystical world of ancient civilisations; and a Mexican theme night, offering the experience of a typical small-town fiesta.
You can never run out of dining options at the Moon Palace, with no fewer than 15 restaurants offering food from all corners of the globe. You must try the casually elegant Riviera Maya, which serves authentic Mayan cuisine, or exciting Arrecifes, for exotic Brazilian dishes. You can find Italian food at La Gondola Restaurant, with its exquisite Amalfi-style stained glass ceiling, or at the fine dining La Trattoria, located at the Golf Centre, while Momo provides possibly the best Asian cuisine in Mexico, including delectable Thai delicacies.
