Multi centre holidays have been on the increase since about 2010, as more adventurous travellers have begun to abandon the beach holiday in favour of tailor-made trips to two or more, often very different, destinations. At the same time, multi-destination travel is becoming easier, as many destination countries, as well as airlines, realise that increasing numbers of travellers want to see more than one place, rather than staying put. Internal domestic flights, internal rail transport, and connecting flights among neighbouring countries, are all becoming more convenient, as airlines and travel companies adapt to the new trend.
The more the options increase for multi centre holidays, the more this type of travel seems to make sense. If you are paying out a lot of money for a trip to a far-flung destination, it can be agonisingly difficult to make the choice of exactly where to go, and the obvious solution is to go to more than one destination. This is especially helpful if you have limited time -- you can use the time you have to the very best advantage, and greatly multiply the enriching experiences you enjoy.
There are some parts of the world that are particularly suitable for multi centre holidays, and one of these is the Indian Ocean, with its astonishing diversity of landscapes and cultures, all incredibly beautiful in their different ways. Choosing just one of these amazing destinations often seems well-nigh impossible. Instead of confining yourself to just one, you could, for example, have a week in the Seychelles, followed by a week in Mauritius or the Maldives -- all places of stunning contrasts.
It isn't always necessary even to visit more than one country -- some places, like Sri Lanka, have more than enough potential for a multi-centre holiday within their own borders. Sri Lanka is a land of such extraordinary variety that a single holiday can never do it justice. You could combine the undiscovered south-east with the phenomenal Cultural Triangle in the north, or the buzzing south-west coast with the rainforest national parks full of amazing wildlife.
Another way of taking multi centre holidays is by using attractive destinations as stopovers, on the way to somewhere further afield. A stopover is a really great idea, as it breaks up what could otherwise be a very long flight, and at the same time enables you to see places that are completely different from your ultimate destination. For instance, if you are heading for the Indian Ocean or the Far East, ideal places to stopover would be in the Middle East, particularly in the Arabian Peninsula.
Of course, places like Oman, and Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, have taken their place among the world's fastest growing tourist hotspots in the last decade or so. With their spectacular scenery, fascinating cultures and traditional Arabian hospitality, plus, of course, some of the world's most ultra-luxurious hotels, they tick all the boxes for the holiday of a lifetime. The Arabian Peninsula has plenty of potential in its own right for a multi centre holiday -- for example, combining the exciting buzz of Dubai with the stunning landscapes of Oman.
However, situated as they are at the crossroads of the world, these destinations are perfectly placed to be stopovers to break your journey to somewhere further afield. Abu Dhabi and Dubai in particular have established themselves during the past decade as major global transport hubs. They both have direct links to the Maldives, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Mauritius, making them ideal places to break your long journey, while enjoying the total contrast in culture, scenery, cuisine and ambience.
There are plenty of other parts of the world that also have wonderful potential for multi centre holidays. The magical Caribbean has a much more compact geography than the Indian Ocean, and yet its 5.000 islands offer an incredible variety of landscapes and lifestyles. Then there is South-east Asia, with all its romance, glamour and mystery -- there is ample potential for, for example, combining extraordinary cities like Singapore or Bangkok with mystical and exotic lands like Bali. There are so many possibilities -- the important thing is to make sure you let our specialists design your holiday, using our expertise to work out which are the easiest combinations, and the most convenient transport connections.
