North Cyprus is an outstanding area for a holiday, simply because it is perhaps one of the most unique destinations in the world. Peppered with ancient ruins, sprawling beaches, brilliant mountain landscapes and welcoming locals, it offers something for essentially everyone.

Technically a part of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, this northeastern region of the island features untouched areas such as the Karpaz Peninsula and well-preserved structures, such as the Crusader castles. There are a wealth of sites to make you feel as if you have stepped back in time, as well as mountains to climb, nesting turtles to watch, and archaeological wonders to explore. Below are some of the most interesting things to do and see in North Cyprus:

Weather

North Cyprus enjoys ideal Mediterranean weather for the majority of the year, which is a favourite characteristic of the area according to visitors and locals alike. With an average of more than 300 days of sunshine per year, and temperatures ranging from 30 to 38°C during summer and 20°C during winter, North Cyprus is a fail safe destination any time of year.

Activities and Attractions

You may wish to start your holiday visiting places such as Büyükkonuk, the region’s first eco-village.Here, you can learn to make local foods and crafts, as well as hear about the area’s culture and heritage. Below are some other exceptional places to visit and enjoy.

Karpaz Peninsula

Take a leisurely stroll along the undeveloped, panorama of the Karpaz Peninsula, which spans 5km and is also referred to by locals as Golden Sands Beach. You can easily spend an entire morning or afternoon in this glorious area.

The second of two main entrances to North Cyprus, this beautiful site is currently under restoration, and can be easily viewed from several directions. Its iron portcullis and ironclad wooden doors are impressive sites for anyone with even a slight interest in Medieval history.

The Church of Saint Mamas
