The Al Qasr, like its sister hotel the Mina A’Salam, is described as a Grand Boutique hotel, which combines the magnificence of a luxury resort with the intimacy and personal service of a family retreat. The name Al Qasr translates as The Palace, and it truly is the palace at the heart of the Madinat Jumeirah complex. Its design is inspired by the architecture of the traditional Sheikh’s summer residence, and the building is elevated to emphasise its splendour, looking down on pools, waterways and ancient wind towers.
When you arrive at the Al Qasr, you approach along a stately avenue, lined with elegantly carved statues of Arabian horses, and enter through the sculpted arches of the majestic entrance into a marble lobby festooned with palms. The sense of grandeur is reinforced by the huge windows and magnificent gardens, and the ambience of luxury can be quite breathtaking. Yet the hotel succeeds in combining the height of opulence with the age-old influence of Arabia, and an all-pervading sense of tradition.
The Al Qasr has access to all the many restaurants of the Madinat Jumeirah Souk, but has some superb restaurants of its own as well. These include the Pierchic, which has been described as the best romantic restaurant in Dubai. Located at the end of the hotel’s pier, it offers an over-the-water dining experience, and delectable Mediterranean sea food inspired by a famous triple-Michelin-starred French chef.
Then there is the Arboretum which, not to be outdone, is described as Dubai’s best buffet, where international cuisine is served on the terrace with views of the sea, or inside under a magnificent ornate arched ceiling. A very popular restaurant is the Al Hambra, which provides authentic Spanish food in a lively atmosphere, with rhythmic music. The Pai Thai, serving oriental fare, is located right over one of the waterways, and you are transported there by abra boat, or water taxi.
