The Mina A’Salam, or Harbour of Peace, is the other Grand Boutique hotel within the Madinat Jumeirah complex. While it may not be as stately and grand as its sister hotel, the Al Qasr, its style is exquisite, and it gives out an informal ambience that seems to make you feel instantly welcome. Of all the properties on the complex, it perhaps offers the most quintessentially Arabian warmth, being designed and built throughout to echo the traditional styles of Old Arabia, and also as a tribute to Dubai’s seafaring history.
The Mina A’Salam really forms the gateway to the Madinat Jumeirah complex – it is the entry point from which you can follow waterways and walkways to all parts of the complex, including the restaurants, Water Park, and Souk. As you arrive at the hotel, you will see how the contemporary architecture of the frontage is inspired by that of places like Historic Jeddah, and the Yemen’s ancient skyscrapers. The most distinctive features are the eye-catching traditional wind-towers, through which modern technology blends in perfectly with traditional Middle Eastern elements.
The lobby of the hotel is dominated by a rose petal water feature, and the flowing robes of the reception staff complement the Arabian welcome. As you explore the interior, you find yourself following a labyrinth of beautifully crafted rooms with ornate furnishings and stylish decor. All the public rooms are richly set out with Persian carpets, oriental-style lanterns and intricately carved woodwork objects.
As well as the vast array of restaurants available in the wider Madinat Jumeirah complex, the Mina A’Salam has a selection of on-site restaurants to suit most tastes. The Zheng He’s provides Chinese fare with a modern twist, and The Wharf offers traditional English cuisine, while at the Al Muna you can sample genuine Arab food in a completely authentic setting. The Bahri Bar is considered Dubai’s place to go to enjoy a sundowner cocktail, sitting on the terrace looking over the Gulf – bahri means “views of the sea”.
