As soon as you arrive, your luggage is taken at the entry-way, and you are walked across a stunning footbridge that spans a black-painted orchid pool lined with flaming torches -- voted as one of the five best hotel entrances in the world. This brings you into the beautiful airy, spacious lobby, with its lofty, raftered ceiling and shuttered windows giving it a plantation feel. The stylish interiors are given extra touches of sophistication with chunky Moroccan candles and dramatic tree-trunk vases.
Outside, the external timbers and shutters are a cool grey, intensifying the green of the lawns, palms and forests, and the beauty of the grounds is enhanced by the abundance of orchids, and the lights that illuminate the gardens at night. There are fountains everywhere, and the huge free-form pool is lined with tiles brought in from Bali. Hammocks hang among the trees, adding to the prevailing ambience of calm and relaxation.
The same sense of calm and relaxation pervades the restaurant scene, where you can be sure of finding something that suits your mood, whether you favour a lazy lunch in your lounger, or a sophisticated gourmet dinner. The great thing about meals at the Carlisle Bay is that you can order from any menu anywhere, and it can be delivered to you on the beach or by the pool. As with the rest of the hotel, there is plenty in the culinary offerings to appeal to both families and honeymooners.
Of the four restaurants, two are new additions, including the Jetty Grill, a casual venue for adults only, right by the ocean, while Ottimo! serves classic Italian dishes from a wood-burning oven by the pool. The Indigo on the Beach has a spectacular open-air setting right on the sands, and provides fresh and healthy grills, salads and pastas all day, as well as hosting a weekly beach barbecue with a live band. East, considered one of Antigua's best restaurants, offers sensational Thai, Indonesian and Japanese cuisine in a stunning contemporary setting, entered through tall Indonesian carved doors.

The 82 suites all have a stylish minimalist décor, with floors of pale limestone, dark wood furniture and white sofas. All suites echo the crescent shape of the bay, all feature a wall of glass giving on to a deck, and all have individually-controlled air-conditioning, ceiling fans, minibar, overnight laundry service and dry cleaning service, coffee machine, hairdryer, safe, and 24-hour room service.
