On one of the most beautiful beaches of the Dominican Republic's eastern tip stands the extravagant, and incredibly cool, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, which uniquely succeeds in combining an all-inclusive luxury experience with the distinctive ambience of the Hard Rock brand. This iconic resort manages to project itself as supremely family-friendly, while at the same time featuring amenities for those seeking excitement, nightlife and exhilarating entertainment. With its electrifying public spaces, innovative restaurants and legendary rock and roll vibe, the Hard Rock certainly injects fresh energy into the classic resort concept.
Everything about this 121-acre resort is vast, and just getting around it would be a challenge without the tram and golf-cart shuttles provided by the hotel. Indoors there are lofty ceilings and wide hallways throughout the property. The main check-in buildings fit in with the classic Hard Rock layout, with restaurants, a shopping area featuring 19 boutiques and speciality shops, a casino and a conference centre, while surrounding them are palm trees, outdoor restaurants and no fewer than 13 outdoor pools, including a Family Pool, the Central Pool where everyone gathers, the Isla Pool with its Latin-style beat, and the Sax Pool where you just may find some peace and quiet.
However, it is of course the ever-present rocker vibe that truly defines the essence of this hotel, where classic rock memorabilia, highlighting both local and international artists, cover every available inch of wall space, and where guests can rent a guitar of their choice for 48 hours free of charge. Night time brings live shows with guest DJs and open-air theme parties, and the 14,000-square-foot two-level ORO Nightclub, set up to rival the best in Las Vegas, features a two-storey-tall LED wall, built of 300 LED screens, as well as the first ever infinity-edge bar. The Casino too is said to be the biggest and best in the Dominican Republic.
There are BOSE speakers coming out of the ground all over the resort, meaning you can hear music wherever you go, so it isn't always easy to find peace. However, as well as the Sax Pool, there are colourful tropical gardens, kept lush and green with sprinklers, plus tranquil canals and a natural river. And the beach is one of the most perfect in Punta Cana, with powdery white sand, ideal for those who love beach walking.
With 10 restaurants, there is no shortage of dining options, including Ciao on the main boulevard, the place for authentic Italian specialities, along with stunning views of the gardens. The outdoor Brazilian restaurant Ipanema invites guests to feast on a vast selection of poultry and meat served sword-style, while Isla specialises in freshly-prepared Caribbean dishes, served with spices that enhance the natural flavour. For contemporary Californian cuisine, head for Simon Mansion, the organic restaurant where celebrity Rock 'n' Roll chef Kerry Simon produces fine dining with an edge.
