Jade Mountain

Jade Mountain is truly like no other resort on earth - as much a work of art as a hotel. Its location is unsurpassed, rising majestically above the lush Anse Chastanet Estate, to overlook St Lucia's magnificent Piton World Heritage site. Built right into the mountainside, this extraordinary architectural wonder has been uniquely designed to integrate organically with its natural surroundings, creating a totally mesmerising, almost out-of-the world, experience.

The wonder begins at the entrance, where rough-hewn rock columns, crowned with glass shards in alternate directions creating a stunning visual display, anchor a series of floating concrete and steel suspension bridges. These bridges are the corridors that lead, across cascading koi pools, up the mountain slopes to the guest rooms or sanctuaries. The total structure forms an undulating wood and stone matrix like a curvy spider's web, softened by luxuriant landscaping and gurgling fountains, and dominated on the outside by the plantation shutters that house the sanctuaries.

Arriving guests are greeted at the arrivals pavilion with a mint and eucalyptus-infused cold towel and a welcome cocktail, or a cool drink of pineapple and fresh coconut water. All guests are welcomed with a smile by their own personal concierge, or major-domo as they are called here, who escorts them to their sanctuary, where check-in takes place. Each sanctuary has two major-domos, who can be called on via a dedicated mobile any time between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m., for absolutely any purpose.

Those staying at Jade Mountain are free to use the restaurants at the sister resort, Anse Chastanet, a shuttle-ride away, but the exquisite Jade Mountain Club, perched at the resort's highest point, caters exclusively for Jade Mountain guests. Set around a dazzling infinity pool, with coloured glass mosaic tiling that creates a changing kaleidoscope of hues, the restaurant serves an exotic menu of Caribbean and local cuisines, designed by its award-winning chef to celebrate the bold flavours of the world's tropical cultures. On selected evenings, the restaurant puts on a live entertainment, which might be a classical acoustic guitarist, or one of St Lucia's renowned jazz bands.

For lunch-time refreshment or sunset cocktails, there is the rooftop Celestial Terrace, which seems to hover in space above the Jade Mountain Club, with mind-blowing views. A sun-trap by day, it is transformed at night into a place for star-gazing, and dancing on the deck to the music of St Lucia's most distinguished saxophone players. The Celestial Terrace is renowned for its world-ranging wine cellar, and its unrivalled selection of local rums.

Accommodation available at Jade Mountain

The 29 unique sanctuaries and suites are all individually designed, each being a stunning work of art and architecture in its own right. Each suite is laid out so that the living room, bedroom and private infinity pool, where there is one, appear to merge to form a platform floating in space, because the 4th wall is absent, leaving one side completely open to the panoramic views. All rooms except the Sky Suites boast a private infinity pool, where the water cascades over the edge, so that the pool seems to blend into the view of the sea, and each pool has controllable fibre-optic cables to illuminate it at night. All rooms have four-poster king-size beds with mosquito net, and feature woodwork from Guyana forests.
