The Residence

Enjoying a paradise setting on one of Mauritius' most stunning beaches, The Residence in its style and decor evokes the charm and elegance of a bygone era, combined with an abundance of modern luxury. Modelled on  a  colonial plantation house of the early 20th century, the resort maintains the sumptuous refinement of the period, not only in its ambience, but in its commitment to old-fashioned levels of service. In fact, the combination of impeccable standards and exquisite accommodation has resulted in many awards, notably the Condé Nast award of Best Hotel in Mauritius 2009.

From the moment guests arrive in the spectacular lobby, and are welcomed with cold towels and iced tea, they are transported straight into the mood and atmosphere of subtle sophistication and ultra-attentive service. The lobby is open-plan, light and airy, caressed by ocean breezes, and brightly coloured little birds hop around and make friends with visitors. The steeply-pitched lobby roof soars to a criss-cross of antique beams, like an old-style ship.

The nostalgic elegance persists throughout the interior spaces, with honey-coloured woods, gold-tipped ceiling fans, and wooden plantation shutters. Walls are hung with sepia-tinted photographs, and a 1920s gramophone sits on the bar. Throughout the interiors there are glimpses of Eastern antiques.

Mauritius is a unique blend of numerous cultures, and this is reflected in the exciting cuisine to be found at The Residence, where local produce from the island is fused with  a medley of outstanding recipes from all over the world. The main restaurant is the beautiful Dining Room, built entirely of wood, and located right by the pool. As well as providing a sumptuous breakfast buffet, the restaurant offers an enticing à la carte menu in the evening, combining the spicy flavours of Mauritius with an eclectic range of international recipes.

One of the island's most popular dining destinations is the Plantation, which combines a spectacular setting in a planter's house by the beach with an inventive approach to fresh seafood fused with Creole cuisine. At night, guests can enjoy their food to the accompaniment of live Sega dancing performances, and original local entertainment.  At lunch-time, the Verandah, by the sea and overlooking the pool, provides an exciting choice of light healthy meals, salads and sandwiches, with spectacular views of the sea.
